Published last month, the new IBM Redbooks publication covers security and networking enhancements, virtualization and cloud capabilities, PowerVM features—plus plenty more.
Glad to have come across this current Redbooks pulication, titled “IBM AIX Enhancements and Modernization”:
This publication, which was finalized in January, is a reassuring reminder of the ongoing work that’s bringing significant new and enhanced features and function to my favorite operating system.
The Redbooks publication covers security and networking enhancements, virtualization and cloud capabilities, AIX and PowerVM features, disaster recovery and high availability and plenty more, including a handy chapter on AIX fundamentals.
For some specifics, Chapter 1, General Enhancements, features these topics: Live Update; Server Flash Caching; Multipath I/O; iSCSI software initiator; Network Installation Manager; Logical Volume Manager; JFS2; Multiple alternative disk clones; Active Memory Expansion; nmon current processor frequency reporting; National language support; and AIX Toolbox for Linux Applications.
The Security Enhancements chapter describes recent IBM AIX security enhancements, including AIX trusted execution, AIX secure boot, multi-factor authentication, “Cryptolibs” and address space layout randomization.
Finally, the AIX Fundamentals chapter covers things like JFS2, RBAC, EFS, AIXpert and MultiBOS. You get the idea. There’s much more of course, so download it or order a hard copy. (Registration with IBM is required.)
